Big-Eye, Marine “Set-Net” Location System

Salcom was tasked with supplying a solution for locating trawling “set-nets”. A marker buoy containing a GPS receiver connected to a Salcom transceiver was tethered to the end of the net. The receiver section of the transceiver responds to a polling signal from the trawler, which transmits positional information from the GPS. This signal is coupled to a graphical interface and displayed on a monitor. Even in thick fog the trawler can motor directly to the net, even though the net may have drifted many kilometres/miles.
